Moreover, DELF and DALF allow you to study, work and immigrate to a French-speaking country. DELF and DALF consist of six independent certificates that correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (A1-C2).

The DELF covers the first four levels (A1, A2, B1 and B2); more advanced students (at C1 and C2 level) can opt to take the DALF. The DELF/DALF qualification is valid for life, differentiating the test from the Test de Connaissance du Français (French Knowledge Test) or TCF..

The DELF examination aims to assess four skills: oral comprehension (listening), written comprehension (reading), oral expression (speaking), and writing. Each skill is marked out of 25 points, totaling 100 points. The test duration depends on the level but can take between one and two hours, except for the individual oral test, which takes about 15 minutes. A total score of 75/100 is considered a good result.

The minimum score you must obtain is at least 50 out of 100 points (this is called the "pass mark" ("seuil de réussite"). But if you score less than 5 out of 25 in any one of the four skill sections, you will not pass!

How long does it take to prepare you for the DELF / DALF test? Depending on each student, and the French course choosen to reach your goal, it takes approximately 60 hours to reach level A1, and about 120 hours to get A2. The time it takes to reach the other levels varies from 150 hours from A2 to B1, 200 hours from B1 to B2, and 250 hours from B2 to C1.

Since DELF is an official qualification it will give you access to universities; DELF is a real asset for your academic ánd professional career. It's also worth remembering that DELF is also a valuable advantage if you want to apply for French nationality or a French residence permit. The DELF or DALF diploma is a great way to enhance your CV.
